Alarms/Security

Pioneer Hall

The lab attendants will open the doors to the drop-in at 7:30 a.m. Instructors do not need a FlexPass or an alarm code if they are only using the upstairs computer classrooms located inside of Room 200 during normal lab hours.

During normal lab hours the closing Lab Attendants will shut down the classrooms after the last class of the day and set the alarms.  If a class goes past 10:00 p.m. the Instructor is responsible for shutting down the classroom, and setting the alarm.

The alarms need to be set whenever the drop-in lab is closed.  If you are using a computer classroom before or after normal lab hours, or on weekends, holidays, between terms, and summer term you will be responsible for arming and unarming the alarms.  In that case, you will need to request a FlexPass from Campus Services and an alarm code from the Computer Lab Coordinator.

 Room 200 (Drop-in Lab):

Monday through Thursday the doors remain propped open between 7:30 a.m. and 8:20 p.m.

Friday the doors remain propped open between 7:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m.

Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.on days when Community Education classes are scheduled.  It the responsibility of the instructors teaching in rooms 200A, B, C or D to monitor the area if their class goes past 1:00 p.m.  Students should not be using the Pioneer drop-In lab if a Lab Attendant is not on duty!

Rooms 200A, 200B, 200C, and 200D:

These rooms require a key to open.  This will be done for you before 8:00 a.m. during the school week.  If you will need early, late, or weekend access to these rooms please ask Campus Services for a key.

Rooms  112 & 113:

When there are no classes the doors remain locked and shut.  If you teach in one of these rooms you will need a FlexPass from Computer Services and an alarm code from the Computer Lab Coordinator. The doors remain open for about 60 seconds when swiped and it is OK for them to be propped open during class.

Library

The classroom and drop-in lab alarm is armed during the hours when the Library is closed.

If you need to use either of these rooms when the Library is closed, you need to make arrangements with Campus Services on how to enter the Library, and notify the Library staff that you will be using the rooms during off hours. Arming or unarming the alarm, locking or unlocking the rooms, as well as letting students in and making sure they leave the building will be your responsibility.

During regular Library hours the lab remains locked until a lab attendant props open the door. The classroom is unlocked for regularly scheduled classes.

Specialty Labs/Classrooms/Multimedia Rooms

These rooms are to be locked proceeding and following classes unless supervised by a lab attendant or instructor.  Check with the building secretary for an alarm code and Campus Security for a FlexPass.

North Campus Labs/Classrooms

Check with the Center Director of the lab you will be using for particular security instructions.

Check Your Classroom

We strongly encourage you to check out the equipment. Be sure to test both the software you will be using in your class and all projection equipment.   This is your responsibility. There is a Lab Attendant to assist you during regular lab hours.

If the room you are using has a class scheduled immediately after yours, or if your class is over at lab closing time; please leave in a timely manner.

If you are the last class of the day turn off the projector and have your students shut down the computers.

Leave the white boards clean.

Computer Problems

For immediate help contact the Computer Lab Coordinator, Marcia McCullough x7719, Pioneer Room 200E.

In order to continue providing you with quality labs, the best way to report a problem is to contact User Services.  At the COCC home page click the My Login button > click COCC Helpdesk > after entering your user ID and password select ITS > fill out the form.

You also have the option of filling out an "Computer Problemsout of service notide which can be found in every computer classroom at the teaching station.  When you encounter a problem with any of our equipment or software, please fill out one of these forms as completely as possible. All workstations are identified by a number. This number can be found on the top of the computer.  Please leave it a the attendant desk with a lab attendant if possible.

Document Storage

Restricted Access

Students should not save to the desktop or the hard drive of the computers. When the computers are rebooted anything stored in the restricted area of [C:] will be lost.

There are several options for document storage which include: space on the network in your personal "My Documents" folder, 31/2 floppy diskette, and USB memory drive. The "My Documents" folder is  located on the desktop of campus computers. Some computers have read/writeable CD and zip drives.

For more information under Resources see File Storage.

Please do not adjust the screens and if you have your students turn off the monitors, please have them turn them back on at the end of the class.

Printing in Classrooms

The printers in computer classrooms are not equipped for printing unless a request is made by an Instructor.  If  your class requires that you print during class time, please stop by the lab attendant desk in the drop-In lab located in your building and ask for a paper tray.  We would be happy to put the tray in the printer for you if requested.  It is the instructor's responsibility to see that printing is not abused by their students.  Once the instructor has left the classroom, unless prior arrangements have been made, the paper tray will be immediately removed.

The technology fee that students pay when enrolling in computer classes covers the cost of maintaining the equipment, up grades, and replacement.  It does not cover printing.

The Lab Attendant will try to keep the classroom printers functional; however, there may be times when you need to ask for assistance or report printing problems.

Room Scheduling

Please check the Weekly Schedules for availability and then email your request for occasional-use to Marcia McCullough.

Requests for using the facilities for other uses including Community Education classes and off campus classes need to go to Sarah Wilson - 383-7780.

There will be times when the computer lab classrooms are closed for maintenance. This will usually occur during term breaks.   No classes will be scheduled during that time.

Open time on the door schedule does not necessarily mean the room is available and scheduled events sometimes change weekly.

Shutting Down Computers

It is our policy that as the classroom computers are turned on during the day they remain on until the last class of the day or the Lab Attendant shuts them down.

When you are teaching past regular hours or when no Lab Attendant is on duty, it is the instructor's responsibility to see that all computers in their classroom are shut down.

Software Requests

Please submit requests for software changes in the classrooms/labs by using the form on the COCC web page.   Please make your requests no later than the cutoff date for new text books for the upcoming term.  If you do encounter a late order still contact User Services.  It may be decided that they can still accommodate your request.

Please have instructions available for your students to follow in the lab.
